The Robinson Foundation operates its medical mission out of Coyoles, Honduras and is dedicated to procuring plastic surgery for indigent children and adults.
Dr. Robinson began practicing medicine in 1966 at the age of 35, following 14 years of collegiate and medical education and four years of military service. After 15 years of practice performing cleft lip and palate repair on children and caring for children with burns from all over Alabama, Dr. Robinson developed an excellent reputation as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon - but he wanted more.
What began in 1979 as a two-year commitment to the Christian Medical Society to provide medical care in Central America, eventually developed into his caring for the people in Coyoles, Honduras, the poorest country in Central America. Dr. Robinson recruited a group of medical volunteers, including hos wife, Kitty, to join him in this mission. His humble approach to providing medical care for Hondurans served his mission well.
In 1981 Dr. Robinson formed a private foundation to accept donations of medical supplies, equipment and shipping services for use in the mission but the majority of the funding comes directly from the Robinsons. The Robinsons financed the building of an addition to the Coyoles hospital to house the plastic surgery and burn center, where he and his team have performed surgery on more than 4,000 Hondurans.
Over the last 20 years Dr. Robinson and the Robinson Foundation have performed over 2000 cases consisting of cleft lip and palate repair, burns and skin grafts, tendon repairs, syndactaly, major flap repairs, decubitis, skin cancers, and open wounds. Our small group of 10 people, including doctors, nurses, anesthesia personel and support people perform 75 - 80 general anesthesia procedures each trip.
